Our Deakin job was a proper reset for a garden that had become overgrown. Working from a list the client had marked out themselves, we carried out selective tree removal across the whole block. Out the front, we removed a run of camellias and a strawberry tree that were crowding the entrance. In the back yard, we took out three hedge plants sitting in front of a significant established tree so it could finally be seen and appreciated, along with a photinia hedge and a lemon tree. Over in the back left corner, a blueberry bush and an old rose were removed to finish the clean-up.
To keep things tidy on the day, we cut every stump back to roughly an inch above ground level and removed all the green waste from site. Then, on a return visit, we came back with the grinder to complete the stump grinding — taking out every stump for good, including the larger one in front of the photinias and another in the front yard. Grinding the stumps well below the surface means the client can now replant, turf or pave straight over the top with nothing left in the way.

Over in Holder, the work was all about care rather than removal. The front of the property featured a lovely mature oak that needed thoughtful tree pruning to bring it back into good structural health. We removed all the crossing branches, cleared out the deadwood, and took out limbs with poor attachment that could become a hazard down the track. Where old cuts had been left as stubs, we tidied them back to the collar so the tree can seal the wounds properly, lifted the canopy over the driveway for clearance, and removed the recent burst of epicormic growth. A second, older established tree on the block was given some thinning and weight reduction to ease the load on its limbs.
At the rear, the left-hand tree needed a more careful eye. There was visible decay at the base, so we thinned it and balanced the sides to bring down the weight loading and reduce the strain on a trunk that’s no longer at full strength. As always, all green waste was cleared from site.

Downer: Deadwooding a Pine and Clearing the Neighbour’s Roof
Our Downer job was a minor but important prune on a front-right pine. Pines can hold a surprising amount of deadwood high in the canopy, so we worked our way up removing all the significant dead branches up to the tree’s co-dominant union — the point where the trunk splits in two — and a couple of metres above it, along with any crossing and rubbing branches that were wearing on each other. We then lifted the canopy off the neighbour’s roof to give around a metre of clearance, and inspected the tree for any damage while we were up there. Green waste was removed from site to leave everything neat.
